Mr. completed a 3-Week Board and Train Behavior Modification program with Off Leash K9 Training under the care of Dirk and his wife. Mr. had a difficult puppyhood and was struggling with anxiety, PTSD-like behaviors, and serious day-to-day challenges. With a baby on the way, his owner needed real, lasting improvement. After three weeks, Mr. returned home calmer, more reliable on leash, and noticeably happier.
Dog: Mr.
Breed: Pit bull
Location: Ft. Myers, FL
Program: 3-Week Board and Train (Behavior Modification)
Trainer: Dirk (and team)
Main Issues: Anxiety, PTSD-like behaviors, handling sensitivity, prey drive, leash pulling, difficult manners
Outcome: Calmer behavior, improved manners, better leash walking, stronger place duration, and safer daily life at home
The Challenge
Mr. did not have a stable start in life. His owner described long-standing behavioral issues, anxiety, and trauma-based reactions that made day-to-day life unpredictable.
With a baby on the way, the stakes felt higher. The goal was not perfection—it was safety, reliability, and a home environment where everyone could feel comfortable.
Before training, Mr. struggled with:
- High anxiety and fear-based behaviors
- Difficulty being touched or handled
- Poor manners around people
- Strong prey drive and chasing wildlife
- Leash pulling and hyper-vigilance on walks
- A lack of calm structure at home
His owner had even been told by others that euthanasia was the only option, which made finding the right trainer feel urgent and deeply personal.
The Training Approach
Mr. enrolled in a 3-Week Behavior Modification Board and Train designed for dogs needing more than basic obedience.
Training focused on:
- Building trust through structure, consistency, and relationship-based handling
- Desensitization to touch and being pet safely
- Practicing calm neutrality around new people and environments
- Teaching structured obedience skills to replace anxious or impulsive behaviors
- Improving leash walking so Mr. could stay engaged and not scan or chase
- Teaching a reliable place behavior with duration until release
- Controlled exposure on a large property to safely work through distractions
Throughout the program, the owner received daily, in-depth updates with photos, which helped them stay connected and confident in the process.
The Results
When Mr. returned home, the change was immediate and noticeable.
What improved:
- Calmer, more relaxed demeanor at home
- Walks became structured, with Mr. staying beside the family without pulling
- Reduced chasing and improved impulse control around wildlife
- Reliable place behavior, staying on his bed until released
- Better comfort around people and handling
- Overall happier, healthier behavior and clearer communication with his owner
Mr. stayed the same “little meatball” his owner loved—but now with calmer habits, better manners, and a safer foundation for life with a growing family.
Owner Reflection
“Since being home you can tell an immediate change in his behavior… overall just seems like a happier, healthier, loving dog.”
